Why rinse rice?
It is important to rinse your rice, although if you’ve forgotten, you can still continue with your dish and it should work out just fine. That said, the cold shower will serve to rid your rice of extra starch which can cause your rice to clump or be mushy when cooked. It also results is a clean, fresh flavor for you finished rice.
For hassle free rinsing without loosing the grain down the drain, I simply use a sieve, run water and rub the rice with my finger tips in a whirling circular motion.
Rice is not as tricky to cook as commonly believed. In fact, if you open the lid to take a peek, your rice will not be ruined. Your rice can also recover if you don’t get the heat just right on your first few tries.
If the rice isn’t tender, add a little water or if the rice is cooked and there is water left over, drain it.
